Quick Tip Flute Lesson: Life starts with breath; expression starts with ...

One of my virtual flute students (http://ashburymusichall.com/offerings/my-virtual-flute-lesson) asked me a question about expressive breathing so I thought I would share the answer with all of you. I would LOVE to see your video responses of pieces where YOU use expressive breathing, and this invitation is for all wind/brass players, even singers! Life starts with breath; expression starts with breath.

Florida All-State flute Joachim Andersen op. 41 #10, Nina Perlove

YouTube user Dumbledorezarmy has been begging me to record this excerpt for the Florida All-State auditions, so here it is. This is from page 42 of Melodious and Progressive Studies Book 1. I hope this helps! Good luck on your audition.

Some tips: watch the accidentals including the double sharps! Make surethe c-sharps in the staff are not sharp, and play it sweetly (dolce) and slowly (adagio). Don't rush, enjoy the intervals and let the sound sing.

This is my first ever video upload using YouTube's record from webcam function. I hope it works!
